The latest atmospheric river arrived on Wednesday in the Bay Area with damaging winds bringing down trees, the threat of thunderstorms, and possible snow in the highest peaks.The storm which began sweeping over the North Bay in the morning was sliding south throughout the afternoon and evening.

Rain pelted the Bay Area again Friday morning as the most intense part of the second wave in a storm pattern whipped its way onto shore accompanied by cold, gusty winds similar to those that blew during the first round.

The Bay Area’s latest storm system delivered a powerful mix of heavy winds, scattered thunderstorms and steady rainfall. Though flooding wasn’t reported Wednesday, the gusts were strong enough to knock out power.

A pair of relatively weak atmospheric river storm systems will sweep over the Bay Area this week, bringing rain to the Central and North Coasts as well, according to the National Weather Service.

Heavy rain is expected to make its way back to the Bay Area on Friday after a storm system raged across the region on Wednesday.
