Game Science is creating a new installment in the Black Myth series centered around Zhong Kui, a real-world mythological figure from Chinese history.

However, the tale of Wukong’s creation reminds us that true mastery unfolds in its own time. Development for Black Myth: Wukong began in 2018, and even though the game was revealed in 2020, it took until 2024 for it to land in players’ hands.

A near-two-minute teaser trailer featured the titular character Zhong Kui, a deity in Chinese mythology traditionally regarded as a vanquisher of ghosts and evil beings. He is often portrayed as a towering figure with a big black beard, bulging eyes and a wrathful expression.
