A county in New York City’s Long Island suburbs will be teaming up with federal authorities in President Donald Trump’s crackdown on immigrants who are in the U.S. illegally.

On Monday, the Florida Highway Patrol conducted a joint operation with federal immigration officers in Jefferson County to round up 12 people believed to be in the country illegally, one of a number of raids performed around the country as the Trump administration ramps up its plans for mass deportation.

"This agreement will give FHP expanded power and authority to interrogate any suspected alien or person believed to be an alien" in the U.S., DeSantis said.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said he has signed an agreement with President Trump to help tackle immigration enforcement in Florida and the U.S. Under the agreement between FHP and DHS, FHP state troopers will be allowed to up with federal immigration enforcement and efforts.
