UFC decided ahead of Saturday's card at Madison Square Garden to ditch the ballyhooed new fight gloves unveiled in the spring designed in large part to stunt eye pokes that often render fighters unable to continue.

Fighters will revert to wearing the original style of gloves at UFC 309 in New York this Saturday rather than the new design introduced in June, the UFC confirms.

Earlier this year, the UFC changed the gloves its fighters use during bouts to accommodate a new design, however, at UFC 309 on Saturday, November 16, the market-leading MMA firm will revert to the former design.

Ahead of Saturday’s UFC 309 card at Madison Square Garden in New York, competing fighters and their teams were notified the old-style MMA gloves will be used.

UFC 309 Media Day took place Wednesday in New York and one bit of news fighters were reacting to was that the organization will revert to its old glove design for Saturday’s event.
