Long-awaited hearings on whether to remove San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus from office will begin Monday and run until Aug. 29, marking the first time corruption and misconduct allegations against the county’s first Latina sheriff will be tested in a public forum.

San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus’ legal team pushed back against corruption allegations on Monday during the first day of a public hearing in her appeal to remain sheriff.

Corpus’ attorneys have argued the conflict stems from her decision to end double overtime pay after 9 hours, a practice Ulrich said was created by County Executive Mike Callagy and the Deputy Sheriffs’ Association, which allegedly added nearly $19 million to the annual budget.
