There's a one in five chance of a tropical storm reaching Tennessee in 2025, Colorado State University research shows. Here's the latest on Hurricane Erin and it's projected path.

Hurricane Erin was a Category 4 storm with 130 mph winds on Monday night as it passed to the east of the Bahamas. The forecast track keeps the center of the storm well away from the U.S. East Coast this week, but tropical storm and storm surge watches have been issued for the North Carolina Outer Banks. Erin has become the first hurricane of the Atlantic season with strong waves and rip currents possible along the East Coast of the United States as early as next week.

Erin is a category 2 hurricane but it has weakened just a bit. The storm is moving NNW at 10 mph with winds up to 105 mph.Erin went through an extreme rapid intensification over the weekend. It went from a tropical storm on Friday morning to a major category 5 hurricane north of the Leeward Islands on Saturday morning.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Erin has officially become a hurricane, the first of this season, as it continues its journey across the Atlantic. The storm officially transitioned to a hurricane late Friday morning, with maximum sustained winds of 75 miles an hour, making it a Category 1 hurricane.

Although it will not make landfall in the U.S., Hurricane Erin is affecting much of the East Coast. A look at its impact in New Jersey.
