Read will become the head of a statewide office that has faced high turnover and increased scrutiny in recent years.

The state treasurer manages Oregon’s financial books, serves on the State Land Board, and sits on the investment committee for the public employee retirement system

“I am incredibly grateful tonight for Oregonians' vote of confidence in our vision for safe and secure elections, a more accountable government and bringing stability and competence back to the secretary of state‘s office,” said Read at the Democratic Party of Oregon’s election night event in Portland.

Tobias Read had a sizable lead in early election returns Tuesday night against Dennis Linthicum and Nathalie Paravicini for Oregon secretary of state.
