Socorro County has agreed to pay $2 million to settle a lawsuit filed by a man who alleges he was forced to live surrounded by his own waste in a county jail cell with no running water for weeks, according to his attorney.

Socorro County Detention Center is being accused of abusing an inmate who was held in solitary confinement. Steven Allen, director of the New Mexico Prison and Jail Project, said his client, who suffers from mental health issues, was put in horrible conditions while being detained.
