BISMARCK — A bill that would have held infrastructure dollars from political subdivisions where local rules block state-approved energy and agricultural projects failed in the North Dakota state Senate on Friday. Lawmakers voted 19-27-1 on Senate Bill 2208 after 30 minutes of debate.

Public school and homeschool students would receive a flat $500 per student as part of the proposed education savings account program. Private school students would be eligible for up to $3,500.

North Dakota members of the House on Monday voted to defund Prairie Public Broadcasting, with one lawmaker citing it as in line with federal cost-cutting. The House Appropriations Committee had recommended continuing to fund Prairie Public with $1.

House Bill 1255 says the state may not expend funds toward public broadcasting. It passed in a 48-to-41 vote. It now moves on to the Senate.

The North Dakota House of Representatives passed a bill Tuesday that would ban ranked choice and approval voting in the state.
