The future of the shuttered Gillian's Wonderland Pier in Ocean City is up in the air after City Council voted against a plan to develop the area into a high-rise hotel resort.

City council members in Ocean City, New Jersey, are set to vote this week on the future of the former Gillian's Wonderland Pier.

Eustace Mita, owner of Wonderland Pier in Ocean City, New Jersey, told NBC10 that he will sell the property after the city council voted "no" to designate it as an "area in need of rehabilitation."

OCEAN CITY, N.J. (CBS) -- Thousands of people packed the boardwalk Saturday in Ocean City for the first day of the holiday weekend. "The boardwalk is great. The weather is great," said Kelly Shoch.

Beaches along the New Jersey coast and in Delaware were closed Tuesday as the powerful storm churned in the Atlantic. New York City announced its beaches would close on Wednesday and Thursday.

Hurricane Erin has begun to track into the open ocean and away from the North Carolina, but storm surge warnings remain in place for parts of the state and the storms effects are still expected to be felt along the East Coast.
