NFL teams have two weeks, beginning Tuesday, to use their franchise- and transition-player tags on players, like Darnold, who are eligible for unrestricted free agency next month.

The 2025 franchise tag numbers are set based on the average of the top three earners at the position being tagged. For Darnold and the Vikings, that number would come to a whopping $41.3 million, a raise up from his $10 million salary in 2024.

Minnesota Vikings quarterback and pending free agent Sam Darnold is expected to sign a multi-year contract worth $160 million this offseason.
