Erik Menendez was denied parole during his first-ever parole hearing on Thursday, 36 years and one day after he and his brother killed their parents.

Lyle Menendez will remain in prison after the California parole board rejected his bid for freedom on Friday night, a day after officials rejected his brother, Erik, for an early release.

Erik and Lyle Menendez were sentenced to life in prison for the 1989 shotgun killings of their parents. State parole officials reviewed Erik's case Thursday, with his brother's hearing set for Friday.
