Airband-specific antennas for a casual scanner user: worth it?

If the reception is borderline in your current situation then I think it would be very worthwhile to try a portable antenna tuned for airband. You will buy back that 10 dB, which is significant.

Mar 8, 2016. #2. I've basically narrowed it down to two antennas for my PRO-651: the great Radio Shack 800 MHz for when my main focus is trunked, and a Watson W-801 for VHF/UHF. Conveniently, the RS800 does a pretty good job of receiving VHF/UHF signals in the local area and the W-801 does likewise for nearby 800 MHz.

Jun 8, 2015 · Back in the day (1990’s) with the old Bearcat and Radio Shack scanners the old trusty Radio Shack Lapel Speaker RS 20-009 was an ok solution. It was flimsy and chintzy and for the price of $10 it wasn’t expected to have the best build quality. The coiled cable and clip weren’t the most robust but it worked well enough for the most part.
