85 years ago today, a legend took to the skies. ✈️ Happy Birthday Avro Lancaster - first flown on 9 January 1941. Designed by Roy Chadwick and powered by four Rolls-Royce Merlin engines, the Lancaster would become one of the most iconic aircraft of the Second World War. The first flight was made by test pilot H.A. “Sam” Brown at RAF Ringway, Cheshire. Today, only two airworthy Lancasters remain anywhere in the world: 🇨🇦 “Vera” in Canada 🇬🇧 “City of Lincoln”, operated by @rafbbmf, shown here
