Caring for clematis - Golden Rules

Guys, I couldn’t tell you which clematis types I have and when I should be pruning them. Growing clematis doesn’t have to be complicated — if you want to look up and label your clematis group, here’s officially when they should be pruned: 1. **Group 1**: These are early-flowering varieties that bloom on old wood from the previous season. Prune them right after flowering in late spring or early summer. 2. **Group 2**: These bloom in early summer on both old and new wood. Prune lightly in late win

There are 3 groups of clematis and if you’re not sure what you have, I would wait it out: 1 and 2 bloom on the old growth so leave them alone except to tidy them up. Group 2 needs another pruning after they bloom the first round and they will rebloom (these are hybrids). When removing the dead stuff, you can gently pull it off or cut it back.
