There are multiple ways of propagating jade plants. You can propagate stems and leaves in water or in soil. One method isn't neccesarily better than the other. Use the one you are more comfortable with, or the one which is more succesful for you. My recommendation is to do soil propagation for jades, as they are succulents, they have plenty of water stored in their stems and leaves and they propagate easily in soil.⠀ ⠀ I stick the leaves in soil and leave them be.
